LITERATURE SURVEY GUIDELINES :
Literature survey :
The idea with a literature survey is basically to create a bibliographic “tree” of a topic, where the root is one of several seminal papers from which other authors have made extensions in various directions. You branch your tree in a number of relevant dimensions that you may have to decide upon, or that may be given from the problem. E.g. a seminal paper in “management of perishable goods” may have given inspiration to papers in deterministic and stochastic demand, single-stage, two-stage, and three-stage models, etc. Other branches could be based on solution methodology, or application area etc. You will have to read quite a few papers (but you may limit your scope if it turns out to be too wide), but the text should only cover short descriptions of their specific with respect to your topic, not summaries or their contents. However, the survey should contain a good overview of the model that you use as a “base” and if relevant introduce a useful notation that you can apply to the other papers.
Sources :
Use only papers published in scientific journals of quality (i.e. those available using e.g. ScienceDirect or JSTOR etc). Feel free to inspire yourself from reading other literature surveys and/or papers, as long as they are good and relevant. Use and cite working papers, mimeos etc. only in two cases :
1.     Very recent work (2020-) from recognized institutions.
2.     Working papers that are commonly cited and have not been published.
Remember that a random working paper that you find on the web is likely to be either published (in a later version with corrections from referees, if it is good and sound) or outdated (if the referees found out that it is wrong).
Criteria :
Summary of “base problem” , choice of notation(10 points), definition of scope of literature review (20 points), definition of depth of literature review (20 points), originality and critical thinking (10 points), quality of written presentation (20 points).

The paper is in English, at most 10 pages long, single-line spaced and readable font size, including cover page with name, course, title, date, table of contents, abstract (max 100 words, 1 page), introduction, core, conclusions, bibliograph. Technical derivations can be put in Appendix as well as data tables (if relevant).
Must be in Times New Roman, format 12. Single spacing and justify text.
