For your last homework assignment (although there will be a final project OR a final quiz on the last 2 modules – you pick!), you will be exploring the world of city government and posting about it. Directions are as follows. Please read them carefully:
1. Pick a United States city that none of your classmates have picked. This is extremely important as a duplicate city will cost you 50% of your grade on this assignment. There are 75 students in this class and more than 75 cities in the state of Florida alone, so there are more than enough cities for you to choose from. You can easily do a word search on this discussion page or pages (Ctrl + F on a PC) of the city that you are interested in to see if a classmate has already claimed it. Per usual, you can claim your city first before actually completing the assignment and your choice will be honored.
2. Find out what type of government your city has. Is it a council-strong mayor government, a council-weak mayor government, a council-manager government as the learning materials suggest, or some other type? Include the type of government in your post, describe this type of government and include a link to the source for your information.
3. Include in your post the composition of the type of government. For instance, is the type of government comprised of 5 commissioners (or are they called council members) and 1 mayor? For each member of this type of government, describe each member’s role and function, and then list the actual name of the person in your city who currently inhabits each position. Include a link to your sources for this information and a picture of the current members.
4. Find a current (or relatively recent) news article about an agenda topic for your city’s government and write a brief summary of the news article, whether you agree with the agenda item and why or why not. Post a link to the article. For example, here’s an article about Orlando requiring a permit to sell alcohol after midnight:

5. Include a picture of the city hall for your city.
6. 150 minimum word count or more if you need to to adequately address all of the questions.
And that’s it! The end is near. Questions? Let me know!
