As you read Runaway, what are some reactions you are experiencing, or connection

April 21, 2024

As you read Runaway, what are some reactions you
are experiencing, or connections you are making, that you otherwise might not have
thought about if you were not taking this class?
• Identify *three* lines of discussion, each one each one based on a different thematic thread
or topic.
• For each line of discussion, compose a couple paragraphs, incorporating your personal
reactions and connections to the course content, along with references to the primary text.
• Be sure to indicate what aspects of the course have influenced your current understanding
and interpretation of the text, as well as your reaction(s) to it. “Aspects of the course” could
include readings from the units, the documentaries from the units, sources you found while
working on Critical Engagement Posts, or the like.
• I am very open to the directions you go. Just be sure to you stay connected to the topics we
have covered so far. For example, if I were discussing “Runaway,” I might pick “institutional
education” or “Catholic iconography” or “Chicano identity / Indigenous roots” as thematic
threads. Which ones stand out to you?
1. Start with a clear introduction that lets your reader know your essay’s main points. Your
intro should end with a thesis that clearly identifies your three lines of discussion.
2. Follow your intro with a series of paragraphs that address all of the prompts’
components, step by step. For each line of discussion identified you must:
a. reference your selected primary text.
b. reference specific other aspects of the course that contribute to your
understanding and evaluation of the line of discussion.
c. respond personally to the issue/line of discussion.
