What constitutes as a “current news artifact?”: 
• Online textual news article from a magazine, blog, news channel 
• Televised news report 
• Podcast or vlog 
• Documentary or docuseries 
• Artifacts must have been published within the last year (March 2023 cut-off) 
• “Data in society” can reflect a wide range of topics. Use your own judgment when it
comes to determining what those entails. You will want to address the connection in your
analysis.
Outline: 
(1) Develop a thesis statement arguing a personal perspective on your selected news
artifact while applying 2 concepts from Crawford’s Atlas of AI. Your argument should be
specific and succinctly presented. Provide a road map for your audience. [1 Paragraph] 
(2) Identify and contextualize your current news artifact. Take this opportunity to uncover
and situate your current news artifact by providing your audience with the information
necessary to follow your concepts and perspective. How does your current news artifact
reflect “data in society?” [1 – 2 Paragraphs] 
(3) Define, describe, and apply one concept from Atlas of AI. [1 – 2 Paragraphs] 
(4) Define, describe, and apply another concept from Atlas of AI. [1 – 2 Paragraphs] 
(5) Provide your personal perspective. In this section, you will articulate an opinion or
