Respond to  2 students discussion using the rise Model

Due Saturday April 13, 2024 by 10:00 pm

NOTE: This is a School Counseling Course

Must Read Everything:

Reply to at least two classmate’s posts, applying the RISE Model for Meaningful Feedback

I will also show an example below of how the response needs to be addressed.

Here’s an example of how the response should look. Please don’t copy it.

The response to the classmate need to be just like this.

Example Response (Response Needs to be written just like the response below No copying)

RISE Feedback:

REFLECT: I concur with “Action plans should reflect the type of services that are needed and have an idea of the expected outcome of the services” because it is in line with Hatch and Hartline’s intentional school counseling guidelines in regards to determining students needs.

INQUIRE: Can you further explain what “closing-the-gap action plans” are?

SUGGEST: I encourage you to revisit Hatch and Hartline’s MTMDSS tier interventions in order to add a citation that would illustrate your example on bullying prevention efforts.

ELEVATE: What if you re-purposed “For example, after a needs assessment, the school is having problems with bullying” as “Following Trish Hatch’s MTMDSS tier based interventions, if the school is having problems with bullying, after a needs assessment, we could… citation…”  for a more weighted argument?

Describe an area(s) that you would like to explore further and/or develop your skills further

This area was my fear from the beginning of starting this program. Transcripts. I still am nervous of interpreting them, however I have become more comfortable after a week of doing nothing but looking at transcripts to insure A-G, graduation status and students that would need to be transferred to credit recovery programs and or summer school. I also am comfortable learning from the counselors I worked with that this is a learning experience and I will get more comfortable with them as I go. This is why the entire counseling team meets 2 times a year  to review all transcripts.

Describe an area(s) that you would like to explore further and/or develop your skills further

One area that I would like to explore further is the process of listening through motivational interviewing as a tool. I find it difficult sometimes to not problem solve, and to allow students to just talk out their problems. There is a student that has seen me a few times recently and she just wants to talk about her parents constant fighting. The student says that her parents don’t physically fight, but they argue a lot and she fear that her parents will get a divorce. The fighting, however, isn’t new. And she says it is something her parents have always done. I began a course on motivational interviewing which explained the four steps of the MI process being to engage, focus, evoke, and plan. I hope to get better and more natural at following these steps when working with students who want to talk, don’t have a problem that they know how to solve, and want to be heard.  The steps are to engage, Focus on understanding what the student is saying and how he/she feels. Empathize with the person’s perspective. Focus by reflecting, summarizing, and developing discrepancies. Focus is important for the interviewer and is ongoing process of seeking and maintaining direction. Focus and direction also helps to keep the session from going off topic.
