Please take a few moments and read the supplied short story by Michel and Jules Verne
(moodle page). Written in 1890, it illustrates a view on a wide variety of topics that have
evolved over time, as the famous SF writers envision.
• Please illustrate the main aspects of Innovation that have, in the intermittent 130 year,
either come into being as illustrated or have developed into a different status:
− Which technical, political or social / societal innovations have been invented and
innovated along the lines that MM Verne have envisioned? Why could that be?
− Which technical, political or social / societal innovations have NOT happened as
described? What would your opinion be as to why not? What could have been a
motivator for Verne to anticipate them?
