Answer the following essay question:
What, if anything, do you think the federal government (and/or state governments) should do to address poverty?
In order to answer this question, make sure you: 
(a) Consider the challenges associated with poverty (remember the examples we’ve seen in the PBS documentary and the reading on “$2 A Day” poverty);
(b) Consider the advantages and disadvantages of the policies we’ve discussed in this section of the course (e.g. TANF, EITC, Universal Income).  Do these policies address some of the challenges associated with poverty?;
(c) Make a recommendation—what would you like to see the U.S. government do (could be something new or stopping/increasing something it’s already doing) and why.  Connect your recommendation(s) to what you see as key challenges;
(d) In making a recommendation, consider why you think government has a role to play in addressing poverty (or why not) and whether or not a national/federal approach is preferable to a state-by-state approach.
Use specific information and examples from the assigned reading and class discussions to illustrate your points.  Avoid vague generalizations. Do not use sources outside those assigned for the course.
