The dissertation is to highlight how democracy in itself is a somewhat flawed concept. It’s practice in the west is already imperfect, the idea to bring this “imperfect” system to another continent is problematic. The assumption that democracy is unilaterally a good thing in every society is flawed (Iraq,  Libya, Yemen, Syria). Democracy in many parts of Africa has lead to insurgence, has encouraged lobby inf(this is also not foreign to western nations), and coups. Additionally, democracy has been used as a way for former colonial powers to manipulate former ex-colonies into submission — especially economic and political submission as seen with many countries still involved with France (Françafrique). From last year, countries like Burkina Faso have overthrown previous oppressive regimes in hopes of experiencing a change in the way in which the country is governed. Many African countries are now choosing to align themselves with Russia instead of the west (BRICS) and now Burkina Faso. I would like a section on the role of the Russo-Ukrainian war on shifting mindsets and ideologies in Africa also. But there are some instances where democracy has worked. Like Ivory Coast and Nigeria so I would like this to also be built upon. I also want the question of whether Africa could survive without democracy. Is democracy best for economy only? Or does it also help socially? What, if any, would be a better option to democracy? I would like for it to contribute something new to our current understanding of democracy
