You should produce a report on the history of a chemical or class of chemicals used in cosmetics, personal cleansing, grooming or hygiene products
THIS IS AN INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT
You *may* use examples of chemicals or products that we have covered in our videos.
The report should be written in an academic style and may feature annotated images/figures. It should be ~1500 words in length. (See final line of rubric for more details on the word limit.)
A rubric follows below but essential features of your report are:
An engaging title
At least one, correctly drawn chemical structure with annotations or clear descriptions of some aspects of the relevant chemical properties described
References for any images, websites or papers used. References can be formatted using any established referencing style but should use the one style consistently throughout. They should be compiled in a list at the end of your report. The reference list is not included in the overall word count.
Please upload your report here as a single Word or PDF document.
This assignment will assess:
LO1. Identify common chemical ingredients in cosmetics and household products
LO2. Understand the history of their discovery and reason for their inclusion
LO3. Apply these concepts to categorise molecules according to key structural elements and physical properties
LO4. Reflect on the origins of modern products in traditional knowledge of flora and fauna
LO5. Create learning resources that explain the chemical ingredients of household products and so communicate scientific information appropriately
