Before you begin writing your op-ed, I suggest you review your annotated bibliography and your summary of the content on writing, feedback, and op-eds. This will likely take you about 15 minutes. (Open the file)
MAD PERSON (15 minutes)
Find a quiet spot where you can do your work peacefully and be in the present moment.
Sit comfortably in your chair, rest your hands on your lap or side, and close your eyes. Feel your body, toes, hands, chest, and stomach. Then, do a mindful breathing practice for 5 minutes.
RE-READ the second draft of your op-ed and suggested comments and track changes your peers and I offered. Read your op-ed’s most recent version with the highest v#.
Previously, I asked you not to accept/reject the track changes, but this time, I WANT YOU TO accept/reject all track changes before you begin your revisions. Do not accept/reject them until you have processed the comments and reviewed the changes. Otherwise, you might be unable to process why the changes were made and how to make similar changes during the next revision.
(Re)read the op-ed feedback Download op-ed feedbackI provided on writing op-eds that focuses on being clear, concise, and compelling when you write.
ARCHITECT (15 minutes)
On a sheet of paper, take longhand notes on what you hope to accomplish during your revision.
You should list the most significant changes you want to make during this revision.
CARPENTER (60 minutes)
Revise your op-ed.
All revisions need to be completed using TRACK CHANGESLinks to an external site.. You will only earn credit for your revisions if they are done in track changes. If you do not use track changes, I will send you an email asking you to REDO your edits.
All comments should be addressed through your revisions. You will only earn credit for your revisions if you address all the feedback provided.
For your third draft, focus on cutting your op-ed down to 650 words.
JUDGE (15 minutes)
Review what you wrote and make revisions. Focus on being clear, concise, and compelling.
Pay particular attention to your first sentence, and ensure you have an engaging “hook” (see the readings on op-eds).
