I. Brief Project Background –  include an overview of the project’s topic, a brief literature review and justification for the research topic. 
II. Objectives – This section should clearly state the project’s objective(s), research questions, hypothesis and intended outcomes. 
III. Data and Methods – This section should give a detailed description of the data, the data sources, and data type and format and how the data will be analyzed. use a flowchart to describe the planned methods used for data analysis. The flowchart should include an outline of the sequential GIS steps used for the analysis (overlays, spatial statistics, interpolation, among others) and the input/output data used for each of the steps.
Data to use is primarily a geospatial data. Data should be recent. Do not use old data sets unless you are showing time series. Availability of data – data can be extracted from public sources or data can be from one’s own project. If you are planning to use data from a research you are assisting in, make sure to get the permission of the principal investigator. Project must not be a simple description of geospatial data but analysis of geospatial data.
Some examples; monitoring of environmental/biological/atmospheric phenomenon vulnerability analysis statistical analysis vector and raster analysis – map algebra using multiple layers decision support system models
